Bulk update GoHighLevel contacts from Google Sheets

Bulk contact edits need a reliable match to existing records and an explicit review of what will change. LC Bridge’s early-access design keeps CRM IDs with the imported worksheet, previews eligible edits, and requires confirmation before applying them. Editing a cell alone does not trigger an outgoing update.

Keep the imported record identity intact

The most important column in an update worksheet may be the one nobody reads in a meeting: Contact ID. It tells the update process which source record the row represents. A contact name or email can help you inspect a row, but it should not silently replace a known CRM ID.

Do not paste a different account’s rows into the same mapped worksheet. An ID is meaningful within its authorized source context. Keep your account, object type, and record relationship together throughout the workflow.

Change a small, supported set of fields

Start with a specific operational task, such as correcting phone numbers or assigning an eligible owner field. Keep calculated analysis in separate columns. An arbitrary formula result should not become a CRM update simply because it appears beside imported data.

Field support depends on the object and current mapping. Check the documented eligible fields, field types, and permissions. Custom-field reporting support does not automatically mean every custom field is writable through the reviewed-update journey.

Read the change preview as a proposed operation

  1. Open the imported worksheet and edit the intended cells.
  2. Choose Preview changes.
  3. Inspect the matching records, fields, old values, and proposed values in Export Preview.
  4. Resolve invalid mappings, stale records, or permission issues.
  5. Explicitly confirm the displayed update count.

If there are no valid changes, return to the worksheet. A preview should explain what is ready and what needs attention before you commit anything.

Treat conflicts and uncertain outcomes differently

A conflict means the source no longer matches the state used for review. Inspect the new source value before deciding which version should win. Reconnecting an account does not make an old preview safe to apply automatically.

An uncertain result needs reconciliation. Repeating an operation because its response was lost can create another effect if the service does not identify the original operation. Production delivery must distinguish a new execution from a retry of the same execution.

Example: a blank cell is a decision

Consider an invented contact whose CRM owner is Alex Morgan. The worksheet owner cell is blank after somebody clears a range. That could mean “remove the owner,” “leave the source unchanged,” or simply “the editor made a mistake.” A bulk update needs an explicit interpretation before it can be considered safe.

In a review, inspect the target record, field, original value and proposed replacement. Exclude the row if the meaning is unclear. If another teammate changed the CRM owner after the import, resolve the fresh source state before confirming an old worksheet proposal.

This is why a larger selected-row count is not automatically a better operation. A smaller batch with verified intent makes its result easier to inspect and recover.

Know which action creates usage

Opening a sample or inspecting a proposed change is not a record transfer. Under the planned LC Bridge rates, the successfully transferred primary records in an execution create usage. A later execution transferring the same contacts creates usage again.
